African Trade Bead Strand of lovely antique white glass French Cross beads. They are in a rare smaller oval shape. The base is a very even white color, with an applied cross design in red and navy stripes. French Cross Beads are African trade beads with a history dating back to the late 19th century in Africa. French cross beads were made in Venice and commonly used for trading purposes in Africa during the late 1800s and the early 1900s. Today, French cross beads can be found in many expensive private collections around the world. The beads are 12mm long and 7-8mm wide in the center, they have 3mm holes. They are strung on traditional raffia and could be worn as is or used in new creations.
There are a few dings and chips on these antique beads, which add to their beauty and story.
